Description

The Mount Dora Police Department and One Blood will be hosting a First Responders Blood Drive

The City of Mount Dora understands the importance of giving blood, especially during the holidays and summertime. Citizens are encouraged to come out to the Big Red Bus which will be parked in front of the police department to donate blood.

Giving blood not only saves lives for those who need it during an emergency, but it also has many health benefits for the giver. Donating regularly may help blood flow and result in fewer arterial blockages. Some studies have shown that men who donate at least three times a year can drastically reduce their risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

Having too much iron in the blood can contribute to hardening of the arteries. When blood is donated, the amount of iron is reduced. The iron will be replenished by the food eaten after donation, but regular donations can balance iron levels.

All donors will receive a free t-shirt, a wellness check-up that includes blood pressure check, iron count, temperature, pulse and cholesterol screen. You can save time by making an appointment ahead of time at www.oneblooddonor.org and use sponsor code #4036.
